Behind The Scenes

13 Feb

Finally got to work with Brooklyn Blake Clothing Line. This photo shoot was in the making since last year. I’m so happy that it finally got to happen on Saturday. Though the pictures won’t be released just yet, I have some behind the scenes pics here for you!

Getting my make up done by an amazing artist

First shot of the day!

It was such a fun shoot to do. The weather wasn’t on our side for a bit, but we got stuff done! I’d gladly work with this line again. Check out the rest of the line on their Facebook page and shop here.

New Interests…

29 Jan

When you have a lot of time to yourself, you have time to discover new things. Whether it be on the internet, a book, or a place, you have time to explore and find things to play around with. I had time to do just that. I had one of those times.

I started playing around with an editing software called gimp, worked on my make up, and took some pictures of myself. Though the make up I have been doing for awhile, taking a picture of myself with a tripod and editing were very new.

Here are the results

The first one I am very happy with. The second, I feel, is still needing improvements, but it’s a start. Both however show that I do need to learn how to blend a lot better. Like I said it was my first try :-).

I try to live by this as best as I can. I know there are those people who just seem like their goal in life is to piss you off. No matter what, though, those people are going to go on with their life, while you’re still pissed. Don’t let anyone have that amount of power over you

Inside look: Skin Care

26 Jan

Ok, so I’ve had people tell me that I have good skin. Didn’t happen overnight and doesn’t happen overnight. Skin care takes patience and a consistent routine. First thing I’ll say before I give my advice: when choosing your products, there are somethings YOU MUST understand.

1. You are the dermatologist for this shopping adventure.
Basically, you have to understand your skin, especially if you don’t have the means to go to a professional on a regular basis. Figure out if your skin is dry or oily. Does it change with the seasons or does it have consistency? Do you suffer from black heads? Acne? During this time, you should take a look into the type of lifestyle you lead as well. The more stress you have, the more likely it is to show in your face. By analyzing your lifestyle, you’ll be at a better stance with buying the right products to take care of yourself.

2. IF YOU CAN’T READ IT, OR IT’S HARD FOR YOU TO PRONOUNCE IT, DON’T BUY IT!
I cannot stress this enough. It’s better to go as natural as possible. In my experience, natural resources work so much better. BUT there are some products which aren’t heavily pumped with chemicals, that can be beneficial to those who have severe conditions. In this case, I’d recommend seeing a doctor and getting prescribed something that works specifically with your chemical balance.

With those P.S.A.’s out of the way, I’d like to show you guys what I use for my daily skin care.

In this picture is everything I use. Not a lot, I know. I don’t want to get too crazy with my products because my skin is very unpredictable.

For one, I have skin that changes during the summer and winter. It also changes when I’m sick. With those factors, I have to keep it as simple as I can. The products I use are those that get down into my pores; deep conditioning, moisturizing, replenishing are some words I look for.

I’d like to just take this time to thank the brilliant people who came up with this product. Noxzema has to be the best thing that has ever happened to me. Every time I take this stuff off my face, I feel refreshed. I’ve also tried the daily wash in the bottle, but I think this deep cleansing cream works a lot better. It gets way down deep into your pores and tingles so you can actually feel it working; lifts all of the dirt and grime away from the day and wakes you up in the morning. A few notes though. If you wear make up heavily, removing that is best advised. This is not a substitute for make up removal AND it’s not like regular face washes. It will burn A LOT if you get this in your eyes or open wounds. I’d also recommend applying enough to your face were it looks like a face mask, leaving it on for about 5 minutes, then washing it off with warm water.

Face peels are a very affordable way to avoid the spa. I usually switch up my face peels every so often, but the consistent theme is, FRUIT! Fruits work well for peels because, even with the over-bearing smell of the peel mix, the fruit will take some of it away. Also fruits are good for your skin. This peel I got in a supermarket like 5 days ago. Before this I was using a hydro-mask from a no name brand which was so powerful, I felt like it was lifting my whole life off of my face. Do not use the face peel and face wash together. Here’s why: there are certain things on your face that need to be there. When you wash your face, not only do you remove dirt, but you also remove some essentials (hence why your face gets tight and flaky after your wash it). If you wash your face too much, your pores become too open, which can result in more dirt than you started with. This can lead to other problems like more zits, bigger black heads. Really nasty business. It’s basically putting too much tear on your face. I’d recommend doing a peel on your more stressful days, or at least once a week. It gives you time to relax, let the mask do its work and pamper yourself. Get some cucumbers for your eyes and just breathe.

After you’ve used either the face wash or face peel, it’s the last step before moisturizing: the astringent. Think of this as the last rinse in the cycle before you dry. The astringents job is simple: remove what’s left of the dirt and make sure the pores are kept open and breathing until your moisturizer comes for the final blow. Astringent are pretty strong, no matter what type you get. I use the sensitive type for 2 reasons; 1. I used regular and even extra strength types and my skin couldn’t take it, 2. my eyes are on fire with other types. Use a cotton ball, wet it a little with the astringent (DO NOT SATURATE) and run the cotton ball all over your face. Let it dry by itself if there is excess. Clean and Clear’s astringents are pretty good. They don’t have such a powerful scent and they work very well to remove the last bits of dirt.

This is probably the most important part of skin care. The lotion you use can be your friend or enemy once you’ve gotten this far. Lotion comes in so many different type, it makes my head spin just thinking about it. But, like I said in this post at the beginning, if you know what type of skin you have, this shouldn’t be a problem. As you can see by the picture, my lotion is about restoring a balance, 24hr moisture. After my deep cleansing routine, I need to restore some time of balance in my skin. I basically break me down to build me back up.Not only do I use this for my face, but this goes all over my body. It makes my skin feel like silk. St. Ives is a really good brand, next to Noxzema. I’ve dabbled in their face washes, peels, and of course lotions. I’d say I’d prefer their washes and lotions. They have a very good apricot scrub, which like a peel helps to lift the dirt out of your pours. The beads in this specific scrub help to do just that. As for the lotions under this brand, whatever the title on the bottle says, it does. It’s not a “guess I’ll see what this does when I get home” brand.

I really hope this as helped some of you out in some way.

the next post I do about personal up-keep will be about bald-headed hair care. That sounds so mean to say, but I really do have some good tips about taking care of the little to no hair a female has, like me!

Concert News!!!

24 Jan

So I haven’t been to a concert in a LONG time. I think Wiz Khalifa was still considered underground when I went to see him. Aaaandd that was my last concert I went to. But, there’s this new kid that has a really huge buzz behind him. Goes by the name ASAP Rocky, maybe you’ve heard of him. If not, here’s a picture

Now, for me, he sprang out of nowhere! I don’t know where his hype came from. Maybe it was the co-sign from Drake Or maybe it was his feature in the NY Times. Either way, pick up a magazine like Dazed and Confused or Interview and you WILL NOT miss this guy.

Though his quantity of material is not vast, a concert, as a matter of fact, a whole tour was scheduled. On Feb. 1st, the tour stops in NY at Irving Plaza. Also on the bill for the night with be:

Danny Brown (http://itsbruiserbrigade.tumblr.com/)

G-Eazy (http://www.g-eazy.com/)

Flatbush Zombies (http://www.youtube.com/user/FlatbushZombiesTV)

And, of course, A.S.A.P. Mob

http://www.asapmob.com/

A lot of talent on the schedule for that night. I’ve also been looking at videos of their prior concerts; let’s just say I’m going to have no voice and a possible sprain. BRING…IT…ON!

Take A Look: Black Girls Killing It.

17 Jan

★ Killing It On the Streets
★ Killing It At Home
★ Killing It At Events
★ Killing It On a Date
★ Killing It In Magazines
★ Killing It Next Door

Such a simple concept: Black Girls…Killing It! This tumblr based website is a beautiful collective of pictures submitted by the loyal followers killing it with their fashion sense. The submissions range from the people who actually view the website, to magazines, to other blog posts. Along with showcasing the outfits of others, the site also offers advice and wardrobe tips for the aspiring fashionista!

But what exactly is it? It can just be described just the same as when people explain themselves with “oh, well THEY said…“. That’s just it, it is the blank that is filled with your interpretation, or in this case, your inspiration. But when the it is fashion, I do say, some of the submissions DEFINITELY kill it.

Moment of silence for the competition…
